LIES & LEGENDS
- THE MUSICAL STORIES OF HARRY CHAPIN -

Music Arrangements by
Stephen Chapin

Original Creative Consultant
Sandy C. Chapin
Original Concept by
Joseph Stern
Music by
Harry Chapin

More than any other popular songwriter in recent memory, Harry Chapin was a storyteller. He celebrated the extraordinary lives of ordinary folk, and whether through comedy or pathos, reminded us of a shared emotional heritage. Here, the most inherently theatrical of Chapin’s narrative pieces have been assembled, allowing the stories within them to dictate their own dramatic shape.  Including such hits as “Taxi”, “Cats In The Cradle”, “A Better Place To Be”, “Circle”, you won’t want to miss this dynamic piece of musical theatre! “Aims to recapture the wistful, world-gone-by pathos and tattered-blue-jeans idealism that defined the singer-storyteller… the themes of Chapin’s songs still resonate.”

Captain LouieOctober 17 – 26, 2014

From Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell), comes a musical about rising above bullying, making new friends and adjusting to change. Based on the children’s book “The Trip” by Ezra Jack Keats, CAPTAIN LOUIE is an immaculately crafted story about friendship — the ability to make new friends and the importance of old ones.

Louie has just moved to a new town and is nervous to make new friends. Alone in his room he takes flight in his imagination back to his last neighborhood where he spends Halloween with his colorful crew of chums. Over the course of trick-or-treating and being intoduced to the new kid in that neighborhood, Louie discovers that making new friends is nothing to be afraid of.

Martin McDonagh’s highly acclaimed, darkly comedic thriller, with echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, THE PILLOWMAN won the Olivier Award for Best New Play (2004).  The story centers on a writer, in an unnamed totalitarian state, who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories, and their similarities to a series of child murders. In a night of confusion and revelations, the young writer, his mentally challenged brother, and the police examine the very nature and purpose of his art and how it affects the lives of others and his own. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art. “…a spell-binding stunner of a play” - The NY Times

*Contains graphic imagery, adult language, violence, and moments which may be frightening to some.

BAREFOOT IN THE PARK

 by  Neil Simon

BarefootInTheParkNovember 7 – 9 & November 21 – 23
Fridays – Saturdays at 8pm
Saturdays – Sundays at 3pm

Neil Simon’s beloved comedy is sure to resonate with anyone who hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with the love of their life. Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it. He’s too staid, too boring and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous, running “barefoot in the park” would be a start…

A rollicking classic comedy, with laughs from start to finish, from the master of modern stage comedy.

Songs-for-a-New-World-logoFebruary 13 – 22, 2015
Fridays & Saturday at 8pm
Sundays at 3pm

“It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD is a unique hybrid of musical and song cycle, a revue of songs by composer Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years), winner of the 2014 Tony Awards for Best Score & Best Orchestrations (Bridges of Madison County).

The musical transports the audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue to meet a startling array of characters, ranging from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto, to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams and a soulless marriage. These are the stories and characters of today, the songs for a new world.

Don’t miss this modern musical that the Hollywood Reporter called, “sweetly contemplative… sturdily inspirational.” A Musical in Two Acts.
